Terms of Admission – Costume Designer

Departmental Professional Classifications

• Costume Designer
• Head Dresser
• Assistant Dresser
• Trainee Dresser

Criteria for admission into the Union by classification:

 Costume Designer

• Classification Change request form.
• Current professional CV.
• Union member registered as head dresser for a minimum of two years.
• Graduate of a professional course in the field of costume or fashion design.
• 7 full length films as head dresser to 10 TV series as head dresser or 5 dramas as head dresser or 60 advertising films as head dresser. The candidate must fulfill at least one of the listed professional criteria.

 Head Dresser

• Classification Change request form.
• Current professional CV.
• Union member registered as assistant dresser for a minimum of two years.
• 4 full length films as assistant dresser (a compulsory criterion for change of classification).
• 6 TV series as assistant dresser or 3 dramas as assistant dresser or 3 advertising films as assistant dresser. The candidate must fulfill at least one of the listed professional criteria.

 Assistant Dresser

• Classification Change request form.
• Current professional CV.
• Artistic / technical education in a relevant field
• Experience in one full length film
• 2 TV series / 1 drama / 10 advertising films. The candidate must uphold at least one of the listed professional criteria.

 Trainee Dresser

• Classification Change request form.
• Current CV.

 General procedures:

• Every request for classification change must be accompanied by 2 recommendations from union members in the same department and at one stage higher than the candidate.
• A costume designer can serve as head dresser only in foreign films where the costume designer is not Israeli.
• The party qualified to approve the request for classification change is the administrative committee of the relevant department and on the proviso that they are registered as costume designers. If no members of the selected committee are registered as costume designers, the decision falls to the department’s representative in coordination with the association’s chairperson to appoint another individual from the department (even if s/he is not a member of the administration) who will be provided the qualifications to approve admission or classification change.
